Nigeria operates a Federal system of Government, with three levels of authorities - The Federal, State and the Local Governments. Power is shared between the three arms of Government based on the principles of separation of powers:

1. Federal Government consist of
     a) Federal Executive,
     b) Legislature:-Senate and House of Representatives, and
     c) The Judiciary

2. State Governments (which are 36 and Abuja, the Federal Capital).

3. Local Governments (There are 774 local government councils in Nigeria).
